Thoughts from the Waltemyer family after puppy graduating with Harley

                                                                                                                                        Sept.11,2016

                                      WALTEMYER ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION

First I never went through any formal dog obedience classes before.  I use to breed Labradors and raised them for over 35 years.

The first class was definitely overwhelming for all of us for sure.  Learning new commands and a whole new language.  The four of us were all exhausted and mind blown after the first day. There was no talking on the way home, since we were on brain overload.  Waking up the next day, the whole class made sense.  Truly amazing how humans just like dogs, have to process things and then all of a sudden BOOM IT HITS YOU!!!! Simply Amazing!!!!!

Ellen had a fantastic foundation started with Harley, and we are so thankful for that.

The sit command can be used for so many different things, such as waiting to go out a door, to waiting to have fun with people and other animals.  It is a foundation to do so many more commands that will follow.

The stacked stand command helps with possibly showings and posture.

The down command helps me to be a good boy and lay by my family, it is a relaxing command.

I have been learning a lot from Roxanne every time we have class.  I also want to Thank Ellen for helping me form into a good puppy. My family is very loving and wants me to succeed in all of my lessons.  I had help from Tim and Jo Marie who took care of me for the month of July when my family had to work long hours, they followed the commands as we instructed them and were eager to help me.  I am going to grow up to be a Handsome boy and will be a well respected and obedient dog.

I look forward to learning new commands to help me to succeed and have a Happy and Truly Blessed Life.

                                                                                           Thanks so much
                                                                                            Harley

  1. Ahhhhh. This is fun to read and puts a BIG smile on my face.

If it is ANY consolation, I was SOOO confused and dismayed the 1st time I did Longe Line work (Margot yelling at me from the gate), I went home in tears and nearly quit, on my first day!😫 What brought me back, for the next lesson and the next lesson, was the desire to have a dog trained like Margot's dog. That inspired me and kept me coming back week after week after week until the weeks became months and the months became years. But, oh my word! I was SOOO confused when I first stated learning all of this new language and how to fairly communicate with my dogs.

Harley will have the easiest time of all, learning this communication language. Harley, like my Sugar and my Pree, started as puppies so they have no other perspective other than their reality which is "This is how life is." So much easier on a puppy.

Now, training the grown adults who own the puppy? That's the hard part for me as your Instructor, as you come with years of belief of 'How to train a dog.' It takes me time to train you, to educate you on the why's of what I teach, and to be gentle with you as I do so. I want you to experience with your dog what I know is possible as a result of sticking with this training.

It is a total joy to train and own a well-behaved, well-mannered and obedient dog. Takes effort, patience and thoroughness to get a fog like that and I will teach you how to achieve that goal, one step at a time.
