As requested, how to teach the Puppy Place and Puppy Sit

Bring the puppy to a stack of tables, shape puppy into Sit. Right hand is close to collar on leash -thumb up and pulling gently upward as left hand, at the same time, is putting slight pressure on puppy's hips (not their back as you can hurt a puppy), at the same time you command "Sit".

Puppy Place - shape your puppy into a Sit, then with left hand pulling the leash forward slightly at the same time the left foot moves forward (dogs then learn that from a Sit, a left foot moving forward means go forward.  In time, they will also learn that from a Sit, a right foot moving forward means Stay). At the same time, command "Place" and gently tug your puppy forward into the elevated surface. At this point in a puppy's life, the elevated surface makes it easier for the puppy to understand it is to go on that surface.

The Place command has an implied, but never spoken Stay command inherent within it. The Place command, next to the Quiet Time is most students favorite exercise as it has daily, practical applications.  For the puppy, Place means get onto 'something' and wait for the next command. Once on the 'something' with a Place command, the puppy should not be allowed to get off the 'something' until you give the next command such as "Off".
