Yeah, you were able to post a video. Good. Your "Phoohey" was effective, but when you then praise a dog, after discipline, you confuse the dog. The dog has no time to 'process the lesson' just learned and will remember the last thing/sequencing that happened. So here is what you just taught Bruce.
1. Snuggle time on the couch is acceptable (are sure you want what will be a 80lb dog to learn that your furniture is acceptable for him to be on?) 2. Bruce can nibble (there is a slight correction). 3. There is an immediate reward of praise.
So in this puppy's mind, here is the sequencing he just learned. Couch - nibble - correction = praise. Remember, dogs don't process the way we do, in their world life is BLACK (WRONG) or RIGHT (RIGHT) with no gray in between.
Hum...you might want to rethink that approach. Here's my recommendation.
1. You don't have a collar on Bruce? Get a flat buckle leather collar, do his Learning String on that collar (only time it comes off is when he is kenneled). 2. NO couch time (unless you want to live with broken down furniture covered with dog hair and a dog who believes that furniture is HIS). Your choice. 3. Do the "Phoohey" and if the first time doesn't instantly convey Stop it Now!, you are being to soft. 4. When you do the "Phoohey", do NOT praise, simply ignore him and give him time to process the importance of the lesson just learned which was Stop it Now! Then, after time to process, a good rule at this point in his life, is 30 minutes, then go interact with him on your terms.
So, here is what my recommendation teaches the puppy.
Nibble = correction = a time out.
