Kobe Walk, Sit, Wait

  1. Valerie,

Seek to have Kobe on your left side versus the right side of your body. That becomes critical when we start the FOUNDATION Course as everything is trained with the dog being on your left side.

Use "Kobe, Here" versus the "Come" command. Why? Because "Here" is informal meaning move towards me. "Come" is a formal command and means for the dog to do a SSIF (Straight Sit in Front) which you did with your "Sit". But if you ever want to train Kobe to be 100% off leash, with an ecollar, the Random Recall sequence is "Kobe, Here, Touch, Ok". The formal Recall sequence is "Kobe, Come, Heel (the Finish exercise), then another "Heel" to an EF (Exercise Finish)". There is a distinct difference to the dog as their world is black/white (no gray) so I train you to train them so they can know clearly exactly what is expected of them.

    The "Wait" is lovely.

When you step back to Kobe, the command is "Let's Go" and MAKE SURE you step off on your left foot which is the cue for the puppy/dog to know to go forward. The right foot moving is the cue for the puppy/dog to know to remain in the position it was left in.

    Left foot moving = "GO"
    Right foot moving = "Wait/Stay"

    Make sense?
